Individual psychotherapy
Individual Therapy in Miami and Online Across Florida
Some people come to therapy with a clear reason. Others arrive with a feeling that is harder to name: life looks fine on paper, yet something inside feels flat, heavy or far away. Both are good reasons to start.
I’m Isabel Wyss, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Miami. I offer individual psychotherapy for adults by secure video, for clients in Miami and across Florida. We work one on one, on what is weighing on you now and on the older patterns underneath it.

What we can work on together
Individual therapy gives you room to look at your life as a whole. People often come to me for:
- Depression: low mood, flatness, losing interest in things or feeling numb even at happy moments
- Relationship patterns: choosing the same kind of partner, losing yourself in relationships or pulling away when someone gets close
- Family patterns: old roles that come back at every holiday, guilt, or trouble setting limits with parents or siblings
- Self-esteem: a harsh inner critic, perfectionism or a sense that you are never quite enough
- People-pleasing: saying yes when you mean no, then feeling resentful or invisible
- Personal growth: wanting to understand yourself better and live in a way that feels more like you
I also work with anxiety, trauma, grief, burnout, substance use and life transitions, and each has its own page if you want more detail.
Getting to the roots
Plenty of my clients understand their patterns very well. They can tell you where their people-pleasing came from or why they shut down in conflict. The hard part is that knowing hasn’t changed how it feels. My aim is to help you “bridge the gap between insight and lived change.”
To do that, we look underneath the symptoms: trauma imprints, unconscious beliefs, a nervous system stuck in stress or shutdown, and emotional needs that went unmet. These patterns usually began as protection, and they made sense at the time. Therapy helps you notice them, understand what they protect and choose differently.
I also believe the body holds deep wisdom. A tight throat before you speak up, or a heaviness that arrives every Sunday night, can tell us a lot. Learning to listen to those signals is part of returning home to yourself, which is where the name of my practice comes from.
The Return Home Framework
The Return Home Framework is my name for the integrative way I work. I draw from several approaches and shape them around you:
- EMDR, for memories and experiences that still feel stuck (I’m EMDR-trained)
- Somatic therapy, from my training as an Integrated Somatic Trauma Practitioner with The Embody Lab
- IFS-informed parts work, to understand the inner critic, the people-pleaser or the part that wants to hide
- ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), to make room for hard feelings and act on what matters to you
- Mindfulness, to notice what is happening in your mind and body in the moment
My training includes an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lynn University and a B.S. in Health Sciences & Psychology from the University of Miami, along with Neurobiology of Complex Trauma training through the NCTSN. I have worked as a primary therapist and clinical supervisor in substance use and addiction treatment settings, and as a primary therapist in community mental health.
What a first session looks like
- 01Free 15-minute consultationWe talk by phone or video about what brings you in, I answer your questions and we see whether we are a good fit. If we are, you book your first session through my secure client portal.
- 02Your first sessionWe spend that first session getting to know you: what’s happening now, your history, your relationships and the changes you’re hoping for. You share at your own pace and never have to talk about something before you are ready.
- 03Shaping a plan togetherI don’t diagnose from a distance or hand you a script. Over the first few sessions we agree on goals and on which approaches fit you.
- 04Ongoing sessionsWe decide together how often to meet, often weekly at the start. We work on what comes up in your life, try new responses between sessions and check in regularly on what is helping.
Online sessions across Florida
All sessions are held over secure, HIPAA-compliant video. I don’t have an office, so there is no drive across town and no waiting room. You need to be physically in Florida for each session, and you can join from anywhere private where you can speak openly.
I see adults in Coral Gables, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and throughout the state, in English or Spanish. I have Swiss and Spanish roots and grew up as an expat in Dubai before moving to Miami in 2015, so I bring a multicultural lens to themes like identity, family expectations and belonging.
Therapy isn’t an emergency service. For urgent help at any hour, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or go to the closest emergency department.

Questions about Individual Therapy
What is individual psychotherapy?
Individual psychotherapy is one-on-one work with a licensed therapist. Together we look at your thoughts, feelings, body and relationships to understand what keeps you stuck, and we practice new ways of responding. With me, sessions are 50–60 minutes by secure video, and the approach is shaped around your goals instead of a fixed program.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
Fit matters a lot in therapy. The free 15-minute consultation is there so you can hear how I work, ask questions and notice how it feels to talk with me. If I don’t think I’m the best match for what you need, I’ll tell you honestly and talk with you about what kind of support might help.
Can therapy help with depression?
Yes, therapy is one of the main treatments for depression. We look at what keeps low mood in place, including patterns of thinking, loss, stress, isolation and the body’s own shutdown response, and work on small, doable changes. I don’t prescribe medication, but with your permission I can stay in touch with your prescriber if you take it or are thinking about it.
How long does individual therapy take?
It depends on what you want to work on. Some people come for a focused stretch of a few months around one issue. Others stay longer to work on lifelong patterns. We check in on your goals regularly, and you are always free to change the pace or take a break.
Do you offer therapy in Spanish?
Yes. I speak English and Spanish, and sessions can be held in either language or a mix of both. Family and childhood are often easier to put into words in the language you grew up speaking. Let me know your preference during your free consultation.
What does individual therapy cost?
Sessions are 50–60 minutes, and private pay is $175 per session. Insurance options depend on your plan, so ask during your free consultation. The consultation costs nothing, lasts 15 minutes and can be by phone or video. The fees and insurance page has more detail.
